Esteemed violinist Jaime Laredo and cellist Sharon Robinson have been appointed Distinguished Artists in Residence at Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio. Their residency will take place during the first week of April 2025, featuring a series of concerts and instructional sessions.
The residency will commence on April 2, 2025, with a concert at Oberlin’s Warner Concert Hall, highlighting a collaboration with Conservatory faculty members. Throughout the week, Laredo and Robinson will engage with students through masterclasses scheduled for April 8, chamber music coaching, and one-on-one lessons.
As a married couple, Laredo and Robinson have performed extensively worldwide, notably as part of the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio alongside the late pianist Joseph Kalichstein. Currently, they are touring with their piano quartet ensemble ESPRESSIVO!
William Quillen, Dean of Oberlin Conservatory, expressed enthusiasm about the residency: “I am thrilled to welcome Sharon Robinson and Jaime Laredo to Oberlin this spring. They are among the leading chamber musicians of our era, and our students will gain invaluable insights from their extensive experience as international performers and mentors.”
Sharon Robinson shared her perspective on teaching, stating, “These lessons and coachings are mutually enriching. I’ve received many wonderful ideas from my students over time, which helps me see things anew. To us, the art of collaboration and chamber music represents the highest calling. If we can help open new paths for musicians, it would be truly rewarding.”
Oberlin Conservatory, established in 1865, hosts over 500 performances annually, many offered free to the public. Its distinguished alumni include Pulitzer Prize-winning composers, Grammy Award recipients, and influential figures within the music industry.
